Fuel Theft Prevention |
||
|
With fuel prices remaining high, we are reminding residents, farmers and businesses to remain vigilant against fuel theft.
Unfortunately, increases in fuel costs can make fuel, heating oil and diesel more attractive targets for criminals.
Fuel theft can have a significant impact on victims, particularly those in rural communities who rely on fuel for vehicles, agricultural machinery and heating. Thieves may target parked vehicles, fuel tanks, storage containers and commercial premises, often causing additional damage in the process.
Crime Prevention Advice✅ Park securely wherever possible, ideally in a locked garage or well-lit area covered by CCTV. ✅ Lock fuel caps and consider fitting anti-siphon devices to vehicles and machinery. ✅ Improve security around fuel storage tanks with secure fencing, locks, lighting and CCTV. ✅ Check fuel levels regularly and report any unexplained losses promptly. ✅ Mark fuel tanks and containers with your postcode or business details where appropriate. ✅ Consider installing alarms on fuel tanks, particularly in rural or isolated locations. ✅ Be vigilant for suspicious activity, especially vehicles or individuals seen near parked vehicles, farms, industrial estates or fuel storage areas at unusual times. ✅ Report suspicious behaviour immediately. If a crime is in progress, call 999. For non-emergency incidents, report via 101 or online.
Working together and taking simple preventative measures can reduce opportunities for offenders and help protect our communities from fuel theft.
If you have any information regarding fuel theft or suspicious activity in your area, please contact North Yorkshire Police quoting any relevant details.
Stay alert, secure your fuel, and help us keep our communities safe. 🚔⛽ | ||
